This is a pendant made with some uranium glass beads! Uranium glass is UV reactive and glows under the right light. With the patinated copper bail and setting, it is approximately 99mm / 3.9 inches long with the dangly spider.
Uranium glass is glass that has had uranium added to it before melting to create colors. Typically, pieces are made with low levels of uranium, meaning anywhere from trace amounts to 2%. Most uranium glass is decorative, tableware or household items, with many pieces looking like carnival glass. My supplier shipped old pieces of decorative uranium glass, many chipped or broken, off to be shaped into beads and facets. And this is how I ended up with these wonderful items!
The easiest way to tell if uranium glass is real is to look at it under UV light. Real uranium glass will glow bright green under the light. The brightness of the color will depend on the uranium content, but if glass glows under UV, it is unmistakably uranium glass.
Uranium glass is perfectly safe to wear. You only need to take precautions if you are cutting the glass, breathing in dust of the glass or if you happen to ingest it.
The pendant will arrive in either a gift box or a small gift bag, depending on size, and comes with a necklace. Generally, we have 18" waxed cord necklaces (black and multiple earthy colors), 18" silver-tone, 18" bronze-tone and 20" silver-tone. If you have a preference for packaging or necklace, please indicate this in the comments section of your order. Otherwise, we will choose the option we feel best suits the pendant.
